ETCS and Class B Integration for Skoda Transport's NEW 27Ev

Challenge
Škoda Transport needed a certified ETCS onboard system for its new 27Ev dual-mode electric-diesel train platform, designed for RegioJet's Czech regional services. The system had to support both overhead electric and autonomous diesel operation at high speeds, while meeting European ETCS certification requirements.
Approach
As part of the Škoda Group since 2023, TSC worked as an integrated technology partner — embedding its engineering team within the vehicle development programme from the design phase. The RailOS platform was specified as the onboard ATP system, with first-in-class homologation managed by TSC's certification team.
Since The Signalling Company became part of Škoda Group in 2023, its team has consistently demonstrated the ability to deliver on the ambitious goals that we set for them. The installation of their ETCS on our new hybrid trains for RegioJet represents the achievement of another important goal, confirming the readiness of their signalling platform for deployment on new rolling stock fleets.
Solution
TSC delivered a fully certified ETCS onboard unit integrated into 34 new-built 27Ev trains. The software-defined system authorisation represents a milestone — the first locomotive authorised with TSC's software-defined safety platform. The trains operate at 160 km/h under overhead supply and 120 km/h in autonomous mode, with annual CO2 savings of 19,000 tons compared to equivalent diesel-only services.
